The Ampersand. The abbreviated form of “and,” though the two terms are not completely interchangeable. An ampersand is used to mention two things that are intimately related as a pair, namely persons. Peanut butter and jelly do not qualify because, while great together, the two items work with other things, like chocolate and toast. Penn & Teller does qualify, because what’s one without the other?
